Amazons Prime goes Monthly and Comes in Direct Competition with Netflix
Amazon’s streaming video service is now available at $10.99 a month. Amazon has also targeted Netflix by making Prime Video available as a standalone service at $8.99 a month.
Streaming service was first launched in 2011. Since then the streaming service was available at $99 fee for a year for full prime membership. But now as the variety in the catalogue has increased Amazon thought it to be right time at which Prime video could stand alone.
Prime video has become a direct competitor of Netflix by creating a standalone service. It is important to note that the most popular plan of Netflix is available at $9.99 a month whereas that of standalone is $8.99 a month which is $1 less.
To attract more customers to its shopping club, Amazon has been trying to increase its video programming. Amazon has come up with award winning shows like “Mozart in the Jungle” and “Transparent” along with award-winning kids show “Tumble Leaf”. Also this year, Prime video is all set to air First ever series of Woody Allen’s. It will also air yet another season of history series “The Man in the High Castle”.
A yearly subscription of Prime costs $99 that includes full access to Prime Video. Opting for the monthly route, the cost will be $131.88 over the course of a year which is 25% more than the annual subscription fee. The new plans are worthy of consideration, if you are looking to avail the benefits on offer with Prime — such as free two-day shipping — and not be tied down to a yearly commitment.
With the changing trends, viewers are ready to spend more time on online TV. According to the reports by Parks Associates, 64 percent of US customers with broadband services subscribe for online video service.
