KIA launches its new Optima Hybrid (HEV) in Chicago Auto Show 2016

2017 KIA Optima hybrid review: Chicago auto show is the largest auto show in North America. Started way back in 1901,2016 is the 108th edition of the auto show. The venue of the show is McCormick place. First look for charity was on feb12. Media preview was on Feb 11 through Feb 12 and for public it is open from feb13 to Feb 21. The show will see any new launches like every year.

KMA i.e Kia Motors America, which is the marketing and distribution arm of Kia Motors Corporation Seoul (South Korea) has unveiled its 2017 Kia Optima Hybrid (HEV) in Chicago auto show. The new HEV has a new hybrid powertrain that gives 10 percent improvement in fuel economy as compared to its present model. The HEV is introduced under the sub-brand Kia Motors EcoDynamics. Orth Hedrick, vice president, product planning of KMA further added that they are trying to increase the fuel efficiency by 25 percent by 2020 which is really appreciable.

The new launched 2017 Kia optima Hybrid has quite interesting changes as compared to the current model. The previous generation 2.4 litre engine is replaced with compact and more efficient 2.0 litres GDI four cylinder with hybrid starter generator and smooth shifting six-speed transmission. The old torque converter is replaced with38 KW electric motor and clutch to give power and acceleration to the engine when required.

Total output for HEV is estimated around 193 horsepower at 6,000 rpm. Fuel economy is further improved due to the new electric oil pump and electric water pump. The electric motor has new lightweight, high density and compact polymer battery pack with increased 13 percent capacity.

A new coasting guide has been being applied. This feature guides the driver when to coast and brake through an icon in the instrument panel that blinks for four seconds and gives the one-time audible alert. Talking about the engineering, HEV has high steel strength and durable chassis with more than 50 percent Advanced High Strength Steel. With this new body, better driving dynamics is obtained.

The new Hybrid has different design features and exterior elements that make it different from gas-powered models. The aerodynamics of the HEV is improved with the active grille that automatically closes and open at high speed. HEV has a beveled rear bump, model-specific front air curtain, a rear diffuser, aerodynamic alloy wheel design, modern LED lighting, EcoHybrid badging and satin finish accent trim.

The new HEV has Autonomous Emergency Braking that will stop the vehicle to stop the vehicle to avoid collision or damage in time of emergency. It also has other features like Blind Spot Detection, Advanced Smart Cruise Control, Lane Departure Warning System and Front Collision Warning System. It also has a wireless phone charger, Hands-free Trunk Open, Surround View Monitoring that helps to park. It has an upgraded 4.0 Navigation system with Harman/Kardon QuantumLogic Premium Surround Sound Audio System that has 10 speakers,a630 watt digital amplifier and Clari-Fi technology.

Special attention is given to seat comfort. It has a stiff seat frame that reduces vibration. Soft foam is used in the headrest and upper back area whereas dense foam in thigh support areas.The driver cabin is simplified as compared to previous models. Ergonomics have been improved by grouping and reducing the number of keys and buttons.The passenger area is more comfortable and large. It has unique panel gauges. The interior has to stitch along the dash and doors.

The new KIA OPTIMA HYBRID has the sophisticated design and focuses on more fuel efficiency. The gas-electric sedan uses technology intelligently to give driver assistance features.
