Medicare Part A Deductible 2022: It is hospital insurance provided by Medicare according to the federal government laws to the citizens of age above 65. The insurance coverage includes inpatient hospital care, skilled nursing facilities, and critical access hospitals excluding custodial care. You may get hospice or home health care in case of specific requirements. Medicare Part A and Part B together are termed as original Medicare.

Blood Transfusions: It covers blood transfusions if needed during your hospital stay, critical access point, nursing facility, critical access hospital, etc.

Skilled Nursing Facility or Nursing Home: A nursing home stay is for diagnosis during your hospital stay. It covers semi-private rooms and skilled nursing services. A meal is included too. If any rehabilitation service is needed, it is provided.

The nursing facility provided is for a maximum of 100 days during a benefit period. For the first 20 days, you don’t have to pay any cost. It requires co-payment for the remaining days.

Home Health Services: It covers medically needed part-time health care services such as physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, skilled nursing care, home health aide service, etc. If needed, medical equipment such as a wheelchair, walker, oxygen cylinder, hospital bed, etc. is also provided.

Hospice Care: It is for critically sick people who are on the verge of death and are likely to live for hardly six months or less than that. It basically covers medical and support services, drugs for pain relief and controlling symptoms, counseling, etc. Medicare-approved Hospice caregiver visits the patient at home and provides the services.

Medicare Part A Costs

Medicare premiums and co-payments are decided by the Centre for Medicine and Medicaid Services (CMS). Generally, you don’t have to pay any premium as a Medicare Part A beneficiary if you or your spouse has paid Medicare tax for ten years. If you don’t qualify for it, you have to pay a $407 monthly premium.

If you get medical services provided by Medicare Part A for more than the specified period limit, you have to pay a co-payment. For the year 2015, a deductible is $1260 which you have to pay before your Medicare starts sharing costs.

You have to pay coinsurance for hospital stay and skilled nursing facility which is according to the hospital stay and for the year 2015 it is as follows:

  • There is no co-pay for the stay of 1 to sixty days.
  • You have to pay $315 per day for coinsurance for 61 through 90 days.
  • For a hospital stay beyond 90 days, you have to pay $630 per day.

For the nursing facility, the coinsurance is as given below:

  • There is $0 coinsurance for 1 to 20 days.
  • You have to pay $157.50 per day for coinsurance for 20 through 100 days.
  • You have to bear all the costs beyond 100 days’ stay.
