National Cinema Day: “Here’s How You Can Score $3 Movies Tickets in the Chicago Area Saturday”

For one day, big screens throughout the region will reel in film buffs with $3 tickets for “National Cinema Day.”

The newly-created blockbuster movie event is highlighted by the promotion, as well as the availability of discounted tickets at 45 movie theatres in the Chicago area and beyond.

Since this past summer saw continued growth in the theater industry, we decided to do something to celebrate cinema. Jackie Brenneman, Cinema Foundation president, said so in a statement.

Chicago Cinema doing it by offering a ‘thank you’ to the moviegoers that made this summer happen, and by offering an extra enticement for those who haven’t made it back yet.

Movies That Are Eligible For The $3 Promotion

Regardless of what kind of movie, attendance time, or format, moviegoers will be able to purchase discounted tickets from anywhere between 3,000 theaters and 30,000 screens of franchise theaters and chains, including AMC and Regal.

What Snacks Will Be Discounted For National Cinema Day?

In addition to its $5 combo deal for fountain drinks and popcorn, AMC Theatres will discover any ways it can come up with to knock down movie tickets by a dollar, too.

In line with the theme, Cinemark Theaters announced a new $3 price for medium ICEE and fountain drinks, candies, and small popcorn.

National Cinema Day: Will It Be An Annual Event?

Organizers of National Cinema Day commented that the event was somewhat of a trial that could be replicated on an annual basis.

Similar events in other countries have used a similar offering to movie theaters, but it is not the first time that such an idea has been used on such a large scale in the United States.

Labor Day weekend has become one of the slowest occasions for movie theaters. This year, the August lull has been even more intense than usual, since several large releases have not really been rising at the box office.

Cineworld, which operates Regal Cinemas, cited the small number of new releases in its recent plans to file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.

But, if successful, National Cinema Day could flood theaters with moviegoers and prompt them to return in the fall.
